Technology
EnviroGene’s key innovation is recognising that well established DNA-based molecular technologies can be applied outside the biomedical sector, and further identifying real market opportunities and modifying existing technologies to provide powerful and cost-effective solutions to major global problems.
For instance, the innovative scientific thinking that brings a powerful yet well established analytical platform, coupled with a practical established “know-how” concerning preservation of samples and exploration beyond pathogen to the gene level expression, brings real advance in faecal microbial contamination detection.
The addition of environmentally compatible, quantitatively detected DNA-based tracers using biocompatible polymer nanoparticles (developed in conjunction with the Universities of Nottingham and Milan, see News January 2007), enables the company to bring a cutting edge dimension to tracing pollutant sources and flow modeling.
The company’s application of gene presence and expression tests in the contaminated land and groundwater markets (with ‘Biotraps’ technology for groundwater), and in oil and gas exploration (PetroGene) are further examples of the diversity, strength and effectiveness of its innovative approach.
At the core of EnviroGene’s innovation sits the application of a quantitative version of the twenty year old biomedical-related PCR technology.
